Northwest Flower and Garden Show 2014
The Art of Retreat Award Winning Display Garden
One of the Northwest Flower and Garden Show’s award winning display garden, The Art of Retreat, featured two outdoor studios placed back to back. Each building reflected the design preferences of the individuals for this mother - daughter team. The concept began nearly a year ago when Sue Goetz and her daughter Courtney decided to team up and build a display garden together.
Judges for the show gave The Art of Retreat several well deserved awards—a gold medal, Sunset Magazine’s Western Living Award, and the Fine Gardening Magazine Award. The team pulled together two different design themes and successfully melded them into one garden. I am certain the judges understood this was not an easy task to accomplish.
Here is the finished garden, showing each side—Sue’s unplugged Studio Botanica, and Courtney’s plugged-in Court Cave. Visit the article "Behind The Art of Retreat" that tells the backstory about the work that goes into making this display garden for the Northwest Flower and Garden Show. The display gardens inspire us, but knowing what it takes to build them helps us fully appreciate them!
