A Fuchsia Waltz
Debbie Teashon
In the garden where my imagination runs free, I hear a hum of a waltz and see flowers dancing. Simply, a pair of suspended fuchsias summons up scenes of ballrooms filled with waltzing couples twirling around each other. When these dangling jewels dance on a breeze, I want to hum a few measures from a most wondrous waltz—the Blue Danube by Johann Strauss II. I am like a child playing make-believe.
Even when the flowers are still, fuchsias look like ballerinas waiting in the wings for their debut on stage, and when they arrive in the spotlight they gracefully hang from their stems—flexing, dipping, and moving to a composer’s masterpiece. Like watching prima donnas in a stunning choreographed ballet, observing fuchsias is pure pleasure. Choreographing images of my fuchsia blossoms to a waltz—pure delight!
