When Did Your Gardening Obsession Hit?
Debbie Teashon
When did gardening obsession hit you? My affliction began when I was a child. The journey to the green side originated with a crop of cucumbers. Mom gave me the seeds, which I planted them under a shrub. The vines grew out from under the shade to bask in the sun, and gave me a large crop of fruit I consumed almost every day!
Temporarily cured when I became a teenager, the cure's side effect was falling in love with a boy. When the passion wore off, and I grew up, my gardening obsession returned even more robust.
The lure of the flower sirens took hold of my sensibilities. Though the blossoms did not sing an irresistible song, their fragrance, and exquisiteness intoxicated me. I had to possess them, grow them, and view them every day. When the quest for beautiful foliage took over, there was no turning away.
I am not looking for a cure anytime soon.
