Canna Lily Water Garden
Debbie Teashon
This simple water garden consists of a water-proof container, two plants, a water pump and a rock fountain. It makes a great statement in my courtyard garden. Although I no longer have this in my garden, back then the gentle bubbling of the fountain was very relaxing to listen to, especially on stressful days when I needed to unwind. All I had to do was sit close to the water feature, and feel the stress melt away.
The canna lily—Canna 'African Sunset'—and the rock sat on top of submerged bricks to lift them up higher in the container.
One half cup of Azolla (fairy moss) grew quickly, covering the surface of the water, which hid the pump and bricks under water. Marginally hardy in our maritime climate the canna was brought inside each winter.
