Part 2
Gathering the Materials

Pedestal and wire globe.
The first decision I needed to make was what stand the globe would sit on. I looked at vases and pottery and then stumbled upon a charcoal painted pedestal to hold my piece. Perfect! I also had some cone-shaped pots that fit into a wall hanger that could work. Hanging it from a chain was yet another option. Before I began this project, I liked the black wired sphere sitting on the pedestal without plants. However, I was on a mission to make my own succulent globe.
Originally, the pedestal was where I displayed the globe of hen and chicks. Later in the year, I placed the planted globe on a cone-shaped pot for the winter.
Since I wrote this piece the black wire globe has been discontinued. I found a sphagnum moss globe that you can substitute for this project in three sizes. It comes with a wire hanger, plus you don't have to fill it with moss or soil, the work has been done for you. If you get the moss globe, skip right over to the planting directions.
