Temperate climates.

Mature size:
Height: 2 feet (60 cm).
Width: 2 feet.
Leaf attributes:
Rounded segments and a forking frond. Bulbils are found along the rachis.
Light:
Partial to deep shade.
Soil:
Humus rich, fertile,moist, well-drained soil.
Feeding:
Add additional amendments such as leaf mold or compost to keep humus levels up in soil.
Propagation Methods:
Division in spring. | Sow spores when ripe.
Pruning Methods:
Remove dead fronds before new fronds unfurl.
Pests and Diseases:
Problems with these plants are very rare.
Rainy Side Notes
The crested forms of the Shield fern are exceptionally beautiful, especially P. ‘Rotundatum Cristatum’ with its forking fronds with rounded segments and bulbils along the stems.
Grow this fern in constantly moist soil that is slightly on the acidic side.
