Rainy Side Notes

From late summer well into fall, this plant is outstanding with leaves turning burgundy, complimented by flowers of a beautiful rich gentian blue. The plant spreads so give it room to roam. Although it does spread, it is easy to dig out and keep in check. It will reward you every fall with a brilliant display of color.

I planted C. plumbaginoides with Thymus pseudolanuginosus (Wooly thyme). When the perennial dies back to the ground, the evergreen thyme covers the bare ground like a blanket. I am pleased how the two are working together, especially seeing that Leadworts are late emerging in spring, the thyme keeps the ground covered, and prevents me from digging up the dormant plants.
