Rainy Side Notes

There are two species in a genus that is a member of the Hydrangea family. Although K. coreana (also spelled K. koreana in the trade) is thought to be a form of K. palmata, it has not been conclusively determined if they are indeed two species. A native of Korea this larger Kirengeshoma is beautiful in the woodland garden in partial shade or full shade.

In a woodland setting, this perennial can send up stems to six feet when given plenty of moisture. Personally, I have not seen it myself, as I am not willing to give extra moisture, beyond my normal water routine. It is beautiful in a woodland setting as this one is in Heronswood’s garden.
