Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'
BLACK MONDO GRASS, BLACK LILYTURF, BLACK DRAGON GRASS | |
|
GROWING GUIDE Geographic Origin:
East Asia.
Rainy Side NotesAlthough grass-like, ophiopogon is not a grass but a member of the lily family. I planted with gold, lime green or yellow foliage ground covers. Beautiful contrast with the dark almost black strappy leaves of the mondo grass and light colored ground covers. One small strawberry pot I planted with selganella and topped with the mondo grass and it was a beautiful combo. Slow at first to establish, once established it makes a beautiful ground cover. As nearest to black as you can get with plant material the leaves work well with flower arrangements. Also does well in containers.
