GROWING GUIDE Geographic Origin:
Garden.
Flowering period: Midsummer to mid-autumn. Flowering attributes: Dark blue flowers with almost black sepals. Leaf attributes: Ovate, pointed, hairy, slightly toothed, green leaves. Growth habit: Perennial. Light: Full sun. Soil: Humus rich, fertile, light, well-drained soil. Feeding: Side dress with compost or manure. In spring fertilize with a complete organic fertilizer. Propagation Methods: Divide in spring. | Softwood cuttings in spring. | Semi ripe cuttings in late summer. Pruning Methods: Dead head spent flowers to keep it flowering into fall. Rainy Side NotesWhen I first saw this plant on a garden tour, my heart leaped and danced around. The blue hue of this blossom is outstanding; I can not have enough of this color in the garden. The dark purple-blue calyx makes the blue stand out even more. They can reach five to six feet tall in full sun, but are taller and gangly in partial shade. Well-drained soil is necessary, especially during our wet winter season.
