GROWING GUIDE

Geographic Origin: Garden.
Plant Group: Perennials.
Hardiness: Sunset zones: 2-24. USDA zones: 4-8. Heat zones: 8-1.
Mature size: Height 6 inches (15 cm). Width: 20 inches (50 cm).
Flowering period: Summer.
Flowering attributes: Reddish-purple flowers on upright stems.
Leaf attributes: Succulent, fleshy stems form a rosette with some petals turning bright red in late summer and fall.
Growth habit: Mat-forming.
Light: Full sun.
Soil: Poor, gritty, well-drained soil.
Propagation Methods: Root rosettes in spring or early summer.

Rainy Side Notes

I grow this little perennial on top and in crevices of a basalt rock wall. When the foliage is green in spring and summer, the rosettes fade into the background. By late summer and fall the leaves are splashed with lovely hues of red; they stand out against the black basalt rock.
