It's funny how hard it is to find a list of native plants to grow in my garden, and how easy it is to buy exotics from Home Depot or some place. I live in Seattle and have a sunny patio, lots of pots, some columbine bulbs and a packet of indian paintbrush that has gorgeous red flowers and not much of an idea of where and how to get and grow natives. I have this article to go on: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2866272/guide_to_native_plants_of_washington.html
Any kind green-thumbed, gardener have words of advice? |

Hi Rita, Welcome to Rainyside. Hopefully some of our Washington members will pipe up with some of the best places to buy natives in WA.
Check out this link for Washington Native Plant Society Lots of good info. Good luck! |

Hi Rita!
I am new here too. I am in Oregon so I don't know the nurseries in your neighborhood. But I've been enjoying Pacific Northwest native plants for about three years of gardening now and I just want to cheer you on! You won't regret making the effort to add some of these amazing plants to your gardens. This morning I am up early to go to a native plant sale at the Tualatin Hills park in Beaverton, OR. These kinds of sales are a great way to find things and I bet there are some up by you. And consider getting the Encyclopedia of Northwest Native Plants by Kali Robson (& others). My poor copy of this big book is tattered and stained because I refer to it constantly! Ok, must go to the sale! |

Hi Rita, welcome to Rainyside. It's great that you want to plant native's, they will last you more years than the others.
I have been to the King county web page and I think you will also get some good out of it. Just try http://green.kingcounty.gov/gonative. There is also another site much further south of you but a good site to check out natives, and it is www.burntridgenursery.com. Hope these help. |
