Small Japanese maple in a little rest area in Wilkeson had one of its main branches broken off somehow.
Tree is 3 to 4 feet high. I believe it is an Oshu Shidare.

I'm wondering if I can get any starts form the broken branch. Lots of side branches from main limb.
Probably wrong time of year and I think I need to do more than stick it in dirt and see if it grows.
What would be the best chance to save or make more trees from this branch and then I could give the results to the town and maybe keep one myself.

Thank you for any assistance.
huh?

Japanese maples are difficult to root from cuttings. Best success for rooting cuttings is softwood (new growth) just before terminal sets...more like late June or early July. And those would need hormone treatment and either a mist system or humidity set up to be successful. Most Japanese maples are propagated by grafting.
