Hi Lisa,
The dip-painting is an old hippie thing. The pots are the cheapest that Wal-mart sells. While you are there, get a bunch of cans of the cheapest spray paint; and a couple 'flat' white.
Wash the pots to remove any parting agents from the casting. Spray them flat white. Line a small plastic tub with a garbage bag and fill half-way with warm water. Spray your choice of colors on the water; let it swirl. Roll the side of the pot in the paint, quickly daub it dry with an old towel and repeat until you get the pattern you like. Generally takes 3 dips to cover the whole pot.

Those pots ARE gorgeous! Do you leave them out all year? How does the paint holdup? I love the walkway, great idea. Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures hun, thanks for sharing them. I just love the patio, are you going to plant in the holes in the bricks or leave them? Would terra cotta pots work with the paint? I think the are beautiful.

Thanks to all. I just did the first pots this spring and so far they have held up to the sun, will have to wait till next spring to see. As for terracotta, i'm sure it would work since it's not a smooth surface. I'm certain and background color would work. There are many 60s type painting techniques I will be trying in the future. Remember in school the trick of putting down a spot of paint and blowing on it with a straw?
As far as the bricks, I plan on planting Corsican Mint in the openings. I bought one 4" pot this spring and divided it. It has now filled 6 12" pots, so time to fill in the blanks.

Rainforest, thanks for the instructions on making those groovy pots! I have a bunch of plain, ol', boring pots that I'd like to jazz up--you gave me the perfect technique!
