Hi there,

The sunflower we planted has several flowers, but none of them are open. Some of the flowers are large but tightly closed.

Any idea what the problem could be? It is in the 80s this week so I would have thought they would open up.

Thanks for any ideas.

Don't know but they need light as well as heat.
How long since planting?
They don't sound abnormal to me and will probably open soon.

So, did your sunflowers ever deliver? are you inundated with seedy heads? This late summer warmth has surprised us with a bit more than I expected from some plants that seemed very disappointing in August, but have caught up in September.
