I am curious (and a bit proud) about the fact that I have 1 fuschia that has continued to produce flowers. Obviously it is a hardy, hardy fuchsia because it still has about 25 buds that are slowly growing bigger and opening, however the leaves are dropping faster than the flowers. It is slighly protected by the roof, but it is in an elevated planter box by the front entrance. I have always assumed that the plants in such a box would have colder feet than if they were in the ground. Although I have two hummingbird feeders on either side of the house, the hummers continue to visit the fuchsia several times a day! Nice Christmas treat, eh?

Way cool, CJ. Congrats! I am sure the hummers would much rather have nectar from flowers any day over the feeders.
Does this fuchsia get a fair amount of sunlight thru the year?

Not direct sun except in early spring and late fall in the afternoon as the roof overhang is 4 ft deep, although there is lots of indirect light.There are 2 sets of Anna's that live nearby, and I see the Guard hummer himself sitting either on a blueberry branch or on the feeder pole on which I hung a red, green and white bead Christmas ornament which my granddaughter made, and he has checked each bead carefully (no nectar!) --right now he is sitting out there ready to defend his territory and takeing an occasional sip. This fall I had the feeder next to the blueberries, but when it rained and blew so hard I moved the pole under the roof overhang, and as I was replacing the feeder he swooped around my head and was on it as soon as it was hung.

I love it when my fuchsia do this. I have one doing it too, though I think it has finally stopped developing buds. In a very mild year, I have had a Fuchsia magelannica 'morinae' bloom through till January, remain evergreen, and start back up again in May or June.
