Need Unusual Plant Identified

We discovered some plants growing in our woods. They are about 5 to 7 inches tall and translucent white with a stem that looks very fragile but thick (about a 1/4 inch thick.) topped with a flower that is also the same color as the stem--a bell shape (about 1 inch long by about 1/2 inch in diameter made up of perhaps five petals that overlap)that hangs facing down. They are very pretty but very unusal. Two of these are coming up in a crumbling decayed douglas fir log. Two others are coming up about three feet from the base of a living douglas fir. I have photos I could email to someone if they think it would help them identify this plant. We just found them so odd and we are anxious to find out what they are. If someone has a suggestion for where we could send the photos for identification that would also be okay--I looked through a mushroom book but I don't think they are mushrooms. Thanks!

You don't say if you are in the maritime Pacific Northwest but I'm assuming you are.
It sounds like you have Indian pipe, Monotropa uniflora.
Very cool discovery!
