Courtesy of Trav's sowing schedule, Trav's Vegetable Garden Timetable, my Outlook has been reminding me to sow beets and carrots since yesterday. It's not done yet but I sure noticed this Chris Smith article today on the subject.

Speak of the devil!
I just put my beets, carrots, parsnips, and kohlrabi in yesterday! A couple weeks later than I'd like for the parsnips, and maybe a hair early for the kohlrabi - but I'd cleared a bed and wanted to fill it.
Biggest problem this time of year is keeping the carrot and parsnip seeds from drying out before they germinate. Hey Gary, do you use drip for these or what? I really like my Fog-it nozzle for watering these regularly without worrying about compaction (since I have a silty-clay soil)

Trav,
As all my beds, it is watered with T-tape on 8"x1-foot spacing but I am using Steve's "seed starting mix trench sowing technique" and will hand water them daily or more with yesterday and today's weather until I see above ground leaves.
I think that the tap roots go deep so fast on these root crops that almost by the time we see above ground activity, drip is taking care of the six inch deep taps. When in doubt, an extra shot of hand watering from the can can't hurt.
