A Tall Lanky Container
What do you do with a tall, skinny container? My answer was to extend the height even further, keeping the selection of plants to just two varieties. I planted it for a winter container in autumn, with one Carex comas 'Bronze Form' and three Sedum lineare 'Variegatum' surrounding its base. The container passed the time in winter on the front porch, standing guard over the front gardens. Later I planted an ornamental grape vine to climb the porch scaffolding.
Since this container holds a two gallon plastic pot, after taking out the grape vine, I will stage my potted daffodils or lilies in this container. When they finish blooming, I can take the daffodil pots out, fill in with other planted pots, or plant summer annuals that will flop down its sides. It may be tall and lanky, but its potential has only just begun!
