I finally put Backyard Habitat online. If you are working on a backyard habitat, you can have some web space to show it off. Check out mine and then create your own pages. Its free. If you would like to certify your backyard I believe its around 15.00. A sign costs more. The pages are free for you to put up photos, species and plant lists, etc. If you do decide to do one please post the url here so we can see your habitat!
BTW, you don't have to be certified to get the free pages to post your habitat on.

Oh, that's very cool, Debbie! I have known about enature.com for awhile but I didn't know I could post about my backyard habitat on the site. I'll have to go find my habitat registration and fill in my page, too. I'll post when I get it done.

Lisa, When you are done and when you want the url to your done page, go to the last page in the Pacific Northwest Gallery to find your page, then click on it and get the url.
I may have missed an easier way to get your url to share with others, so I did it by scrolling through 187 pages until I found it. You can't go to the last page until you go through all of them. Anyway that url is to the last page of the gallery right now, but there may be more pages added on if so at least you are closer than starting at page 1. I hope that was clearer than mud.
Kathi, Glad you enjoyed it. I hope to see others we know go up. We could sticky up a post with everyone's habitat urls.

I clicked on the link you gave above and got a page but I couldn't see where to get the url to post my page. My stubborn streak isn't serving me well, no matter how many times I try to get to the page I want, I end up somewhere else and don't know why. I think there's a glitch in the site at present.

Either I'm techno-dense (a very real possibility) or the enature site is not very user-friendly (also a very real possibility) but *finally* I have it figured out! So here is my as-yet-unfinished backyard habitat page.
I will wrestle with it more later . . .
Oh, yeah, it is certified with NWF, but dang if I can remember my ID number. I have the certificate somewhere in this office but which file?! Dunno.

Cool! Ok - I need to dig up my certificate as well. Oh and take some strategically placed pictures. Everything's gone wild on me again! Thanks for the motivation!

Ah, the joys of procrastination . . . I have other things I need to be doing but instead of those tasks, I MOL finished my NWF BWH profile at the enature.com site (see link above).
One thing I found funny/frustrating is that the plant list for our region is less complete than I'd hope. None of our native sedums are in the list among other plants that should be included. But you can find listings for several illegal plants, both noxious weeds such as purple loosestrife and the kind that will get the DEA after you - marijuana! Yes, there was a plant profile page for pot. It made me LOL when I saw that page among all the other plant offerings. So what kind of "wild"life are they intending to support with that?!?! LOL
Another day I'll update with more pictures as well as snoop through other habitat pages on the site. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Debbie!

Ok another way to get your backyard url is to send an email to yourself from the page.
Lisa, Very nice and I am glad you did one as you have worked so hard to make a nice habitat for wildlife.
I wonder if they some of the missing species is because they don't have good pictures of them?
Anyway glad to see you put one up and Wanda yes you have many elements for the wildlife habitat too!

Oh, yes, I'm sure many members here have the elements for a wildlife habitat and could create their own page, without going to as much effort as I did (I wanted to see all that the site could do). I noted that many, many habitats didn't meet all the requirements for habitats or offer a description of their site and even fewer had pictures. I didn't note the ratio between certified and non-certified habitats but I got the impression that non-certified habitats were in greater numbers.
Debbie, I wonder if the lack of plants is due to NWF's (enature's sponsor) location on the East Coast. Although they have improved in recent years, much information in the past has sadly lacked good regional information for us. A friend who used to work in the Portland regional office (which was unfortunately closed - our loss) had the same complaint and I know she, as well as others, worked hard to improve that.

Thanks for passing that on, Lisa. Your insight sounds right on as to why it is not up to date. Too bad they had to close down the regional office. Hopefully the funds will be available in the future to fund a regional office once again.
In the meantime we can work on our habitats and fill in the blanks for them.
