GROWING GUIDE

Geographical origin:
Garden origin.
Plant group:
Perennial herb.
Hardiness:
Sunset zones: All (Western). USDA zones: 4-8.
Mature size:
Height: 4-5 feet (1 m). Width: indefinite.
Flowering period:
Late summer to mid-autumn.
Flowering attributes:
Single, white flowers with bright yellow stamens surrounded by white petals with the backside of the petals flushed pink.
Growth habit:
Once established, the suckering shoots will spread.
Light:
Sun or partial shade.
Soil:
Moist, fertile, humus rich soil.
Feeding:
Mulch in autumn with compost, or manures. I give it a jump start in spring with a liquid fish fertilizer and about a month later with a dry complete organic fertilizer.
Propagation methods:
Divide in early spring or autumn. | Take root cuttings in spring.
Pruning methods:
Deadhead as needed. Cut plants to the ground after first frost blackens the foliage.

 

Rainy Side Notes

Mass plantings of the autumn flowering anemones is a spectacular show in late summer to mid autumn. Anemone 'Honorine Jobert' is a great addition for an all white garden or moonlight garden.

This can be a thug in the garden, so plant where it will not run over other more delicate plants. Plant with other running and creeping thugs and watch them duke it out. It is better action than Gladiators, only in slower motion.
