Rainy Side Notes

In the South, C. ‘Dickson’s Gold’ needs afternoon shade to keep its golden color. Here in the Pacific Northwest, it can take our full sun. The golden foliage and blue flowers are a striking contrast.

Unlike some of the running campanulas, this perennial behaved itself as a clumper in my old gardens. The species C. garganica is aggressive, yet C. ‘Dickson’s Gold does not appear to have this trait. When we moved to a new home, I missed the bright little perennial, so I purchased a new plant to set in the new garden next to Crocosmia ‘Kathleen’. When the crocosmia grew into the petite campanula, it could not compete and died. This time I will replace it with five or seven of these striking perennials and plant on top of a rock wall, to brighten up and contrast the dark basalt rocks that make up the wall.
